Representatives of Alexander Varga & Co. presented their Fiscal Statements Audit for the year ended June 30, 2006 to the Board and to the community.

RESOLVED, upon the recommendation of the Audit Finance Committee and Superintendent, the Board accepts the Annual Report of the independent auditors, Alexander Varga & Company, for the 2005-2006 school year as presented on motion by Drew Shuster and seconded by Jacqueline Maier.

RESOLVED , upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, the Board rescinds the appointment of Melissa Glennon to the extracurricular position of Journalism Club Advisor on motion by A. J. Savasta and seconded by Jacqueline Maier.

Emergency Shelter

RESOLVED, upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, the Board agrees that it will permit, to the extent of its ability, and upon request of the Windham Police Department, in coordination with the National Incident Management System (NIMS), the use of the Windham-Ashland-Jewett Central School by the police/NIMS as mass shelters or service centers for victims of disasters, emergencies or other catastrophic events on motion by A. J. Savasta and seconded by Jacqueline Maier.

Senior Class Trip

RESOLVED , upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, the Board approves the proposed senior class trip to Orlando, Florida, from Thursday March 1, 2007, until Sunday, March 4, 2007, as requested by senior class advisor, Christine Corrigan and Nathan Hoyt; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board of Education authorize two instructional days to accommodate the trip, that all school policies and protocols will be followed by all participants throughout the duration of the trip and that the Superintendent or his designee may conduct all appropriate meetings and take appropriate actions to ensure the highest level of safety on motion by Jacqueline Maier and seconded by A. J. Savasta.

Public Comments

The Windham-Ashland-Jewett Central School District permits public comment to the Board of Education at its regular monthly meeting. Individuals will state their names and addresses before speaking. Comment will be given in a civil manner, will be of reasonable duration, and will respect the privacy of all individuals. The Board will respond to questions, if appropriate, in the days following the meeting.

Amanda Rion, a senior, thanked the Board of Education for their approval of the class trip and assured them that they will be on their best behavior.

Executive Session

RESOLVED, that the Board go into Executive Session at 8:18 p.m. for the purpose of discussing the employment history of 8 employees leading to the possible appointment of employment, promotion, demotion, discipline, suspension, dismissal or removal of these persons.

 

The items discussed during the Executive Session will be made public as appropriate at future meetings of the Board of Education.

 

The Board reconvened into regular session at 10:10 p.m. on motion by William Haltermann, seconded by Drew Shuster, and carried by those present.

 

With no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 10:11 p.m. on motion by William Haltermann, seconded by Drew Shuster, and carried by those present.
