District Pushes for Higher Levels of Student Achievement The BOE has approved a new school mission statement, intended to focus our efforts toward providing a quality experience for all students.
Mission Statement:
Windham-Ashland-Jewett Central School will provide the resources and environment that maximize the opportunity for each and every student to reach his or her academic, creative and athletic potential.
In the coming months, the district will continue to find ways to help make the mission a reality. Some anticipated initiatives include developing individualized education plans for all students to ensure each child meets his/her potential, improving instructional technology and instruction delivery through staff development. The board is also developing an input committee to review curricular issues to assist the school in communicating standards and expectations with families

Information about BOE (information directly from School Law 30 th edition):
A school board is a corporate body that oversees and manages a public school district's affairs, personnel, and properties (§§ 1601, 1603, 1701, 2502(1), 2551)). Its members are elected by the residents of the school district that the board oversees (see 2:3). The term corporate body indicates that a school board is treated as a corporation, a legal entity that has an existence distinct and apart from its members and has the capacity for continuous existence without regard to changes in its membership. As such, the legalities of a school board's contracts, as well as the validity of a board's policies and resolutions, do not depend on its individual members.
Board members do not assume any personal liability for the school district even though they may be personally liable for certain conduct (see 18:1-2, 18:25 ). Generally, school board members take official action only by majority vote at an official meeting (see 2:15 ).
